Think of that one toxic friend who shows up at the entrance of your door expecting you to welcome them. It is entirely up to you to decide if you want to entertain their bad vibes or turn them away. When you do the latter, you feel way better. When you think about it, intrusive thoughts work the same way — except the fact that they lack physicality. 

Although these thoughts are completely normal, for others, it could signal signs of obsessive compulsive disorder (if these intrusive thoughts are persistent) which can also be subdued eventually.
