The Inspiration
The story began during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 – after experiencing loneliness first hand during my freshman year in college. I later met a supportive friend who left a lasting impact on me.
Tragically, their unexpected passing two years later became a powerful reminder of how important it is to truly check in on the people around us. I realized that sometimes the ones who are the happiest and bring so much joy are those dealing with the most intrusive thoughts.
The Founder’s Journey
I have always built tools geared toward solving social problems. My first project was MyFamNet, a network I began back in high school to allow family members to share stories their future generation can look onto. As years went by, I started to believe in the power of making people feel seen and valued. So when I enrolled into college, I worked on what will now be called GenZbuzz.
What is GenZbuzz?
GenZbuzz is a bonding interface for adult friends to reconnect and participate in each others lives to create community you don’t get from surface level catch-ups.
How it works
- 🎭 Choose 1 theme for a check in prompt and how often you want to hear from each other (eg. once a week, month etc)
- 📲 Pick 1 friend from your contacts to start the game
- 🗣 Your friend responds with a 60 second voice story
- 🏓 The Reward: GenZbuzz automatically “ping-pongs” the next check in from them to you, so it feels both of you are taking turns reaching out
- 🔄 All you have to do is respond! GenZbuzz handles the back-and-forth to keep the cycle going and the friendship warm
